About The Event

The Gendering AI Conference was born from a shared vision to reshape the future of artificial intelligence by addressing one of its most pressing issues: gender equity. As AI becomes increasingly integral to our lives, it also holds the potential to perpetuate—or even worsen—existing gender disparities. Our conference exists to tackle these challenges head-on, creating a global forum for meaningful dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and action.

With gender equity as our guiding principle, we are driven by the conviction that AI should serve all people, fairly and inclusively. Our annual two-day conference brings together a powerful coalition of global thought leaders, researchers, policy experts, industry pioneers, and innovators who are committed to building a more equitable and inclusive AI landscape

Our Mission

At the Gendering AI Conference, our mission is clear: to amplify the voices advocating for gender equity in AI, to bridge the knowledge gaps in AI’s impact on different genders, and to drive initiatives that make AI development and deployment more inclusive. We believe that diversity in AI is not just a goal but a responsibility, one that requires concerted, collaborative efforts from individuals, institutions, and industries alike. Our conference is where these forces converge to drive change, ignite ideas, and inspire action.

Our Story

The idea for the Gendering AI Conference emerged from observing the widening gap in AI’s approach to gender issues. From algorithms that reinforce stereotypes to decision-making processes that often overlook female perspectives, it became clear that the AI sector needed a transformative platform to address these challenges. Recognizing this need, our team—composed of advocates, researchers, and innovators—set out to create a space where stakeholders could come together to explore, question, and reimagine AI from a gendered lens. Since our inception, we have grown into a dynamic network that spans across industries and continents, united by a commitment to bridging gender gaps in AI. Our annual conference has become a landmark event, empowering attendees to return to their respective fields armed with knowledge, insights, and a vision for equitable AI practices.

What Will Make The 2025 Conference Unique

As AI becomes more rooted in decision-making systems, its potential to reproduce and amplify colonial, patriarchal, and capitalist systems of oppression is increasingly evident.Hence we aim to:

  1. Decolonize and challenge gender existing AI Narratives
  2. Promote Gender,Social and Economic Justice in AI by highlighting
  3. Feminist and intersectional approaches to building equitable AI systems.
  4. Create inclusive spaces that foster equity and ownership

Message from the convener

Let’s Decolonize AI & Reclaim Power in the Intelligence Age, from a Feminist Perspective.

From August 20–22, 2025, the Gendering AI Conference returns for its second edition, this time in the vibrant city of Nairobi, Kenya.

This bold and disruptive convening brings together voices from across the globe to interrogate artificial intelligence through a feminist, decolonial, and intersectional lens. Building on the momentum of our inaugural event in Arusha, Tanzania, we continue the urgent work of challenging dominant narratives and reimagining AI with equity at its core.

As AI becomes further embedded in our decision-making systems, its potential to reproduce and amplify colonial, patriarchal, and capitalist structures grows. That’s why this conference centers marginalized voices—especially from the Global South—to lead new conversations and inspire new possibilities.

I'm calling on technologists, feminists, policymakers, funders, scholars, and community leaders to come together and experience decolonization of the AI from a feminist perspective.
